talking-sex

The new lifetime movie “the pregnancy pact” was a non-stop talk-feast in my house. If you didn’t know already I have two daughters 8 and 12 and one son 13.  After they brought it to my attention that it would be on and they wanted to watch it with me I couldn’t say no, I was all for it.  I knew that if they took the time to make me aware of it they wanted to share this experience with me and ask me questions, which I’m always open for, as all parents should be.

The movie was a very huge eye opener for me to say the least.  I was so shocked and surprised at how naive those girls were. How they made a very dumb decision because they ultimately thought it was cool to be pregnant and a young mother. Once the reality of it all started to set in, it wasn’t all fun and games.  At every commercial I made it a point to discuss with the kids the importance of waiting and I explained why I didn’t and why their father didn’t but we wished we had.

In my particular situation I wasn’t given a choice in the matter, it was made for me by an adult who took advantage of me at a very young age, 6 to be exact, at least that’s what I can remember.  It’s funny how a body and mind shuts down and represses memories like that.  Anyhow, it happened and as a result I became promiscuous in my childhood, adolescence  and teen years.  I’m not at all embarrassed to share this with you and or my kids because they need to know the truth in order to make the right decisions for themselves and not hate me later for not telling them.

I can’t nor will I ever sugar-coat this whole sex thing and tell them not to do it knowing I didn’t take that same advice when I was choosing to.  It wouldn’t be fair to them.  In the movie the lead character’s mom didn’t do that and as a result her daughter got pregnant.  Yes it’ll happen either way but I’d rather know I gave my girls and son the facts about both options and what choices I made when I was their age then allowing them to fall victim to my short comings.

TALK TO YOUR KIDS, AND TELL THEM ABOUT THE CHOICES YOU MADE NO MATTER HOW EMBARRASSING YOU MAY BE!

Check out this post from one of my blog-friends. Sex is EVERYWHERE, we have to talk about it now!

Remember that song?  I was seating here working on my cookbook thinking about my Mom today.  We were all @ a barbecue @ my cousin Marian’s house in Burleson this past Memorial Day and even after the sun had gone down (o-dark-thirty, yeah)  my Momma whips out a pair of sunglasses like the sun is beaming in especially for her and when you go to ask her, why she has on her shades, she’d bust out in song…”my future so bright, I gotta wear shades”…..and then you can’t help but fall on the floor laughing because it’s just so hilarious, because you don’t expect those words to come out of her mouth!  You had to be there!

I was just talking with my Mom, she called to see if I was stressing out about this coming weekends’ event. (our cooking demo with Real Men Cook) and I told her calmly that I wasn’t and really you would think I should be with all that’s been going on.

In order for me to be able to serve people samples I would need to prepare all the ingredients ahead of time in a commercial kitchen, which I no access to. My husband may have to travel to California for his boss this week so he will miss our event. ( still up in the air on that) The kids and I will have to cram in my Mother’s small car and drive to Plano which is 30 to 45 min away @ 6 AM on Sat. Our demo should only last for 30 min so we should be good on that. So for some reason I’m not stressed @ all! I gave it to GOD and I’m letting him work it out! So why stress, right? Wish us luck, this is just another amazing opportunity that may lead to another bigger opportunity.
