The kids were a little disappointed yesterday when our small town didn’t have any public pools we could utilize. Yeah, I stopped by the town hall and asked if there were any pools that wasn’t a community pool only facility and low and behold, there wasn’t. Our only option was to goto the swim hole at the Lake (Lake Lewisville). I think it’s way too filthy and it makes them stink.

So to make it up to them not only did we find a friend of theirs from their school who lives in a subdivision and invited us to go swimming with his family today, I made them a “Summertime Chocolate Fondue” party. It was great. We cut up bananas, some beautiful summer strawberries, and a very sweet whole pineapple. They had a great time using the little fondue picks. Would you believe, I’ve had my cast-iron fondue pot for 7 years and this was the very first time I’ve ever used it? WOW! What was I waiting for?

Today is unofficially & officially our first day of summer and we decided to spend the day with my mother. What a great decision that was. It’s hotter than “fish grease” in Texas. :-) and outside her single-gal apartment there’s a cool and refreshing pool. So hubby and I packed up the kiddos and their bathing suites headed for NRH.

Of course we called first to make sure:

  1. She was home.
  2. She wanted some company. “Of course, bring them kids”.
  3. Momma’s got a GRILL!!!!!

Pool + Grill = POOL PARTY!!!

On the menu we had and please don’t drool too much:

  • Whiskey Beef & Chicken Kabobs
  • Honey Mustard Beer Pork Ribs
  • Whiskey Steaks
  • Pecan Smoked Beef Sausage
  • Hickory Smoked Beef Sausage
  • Beef Links
  • Corn & Rice (Caribbean Dish)
  • “You Got Next” Potato Salad (Recipe available in my cookbook “Raising Chefs…not just good cooks!)

So needless to say…I’M HAVING BARBECUE FOR BREAKFAST IN THE MORNING!
