About

About |Going Pro @ Home — The Diary of a culinary home chef.

GPAH was started because of countless hours of searching the internet for resources on how to organize recipes, write recipes, test recipes, publish a professional cookbook and became a published cookbook author. I wanted to document what I’ve found over the few years putting my book together. Share my process and hope to reach out to someone who may be in the same place I was when I got started.

So Going Pro @ Home |The diary of a culinary home chef — is my journey from idea conception, to recipe organization, to self-publishing my first professional cookbook. I’m not only the author but I also wear the hat of food photographer, food stylist, food writer, food blogger, and teacher — The book is cleverly titled “Raising Chefs…not just good cooks!”

About |The Book — “Raising Chefs…not just good cooks!”

RAISING CHEFS…not just good cooks! focuses on starting early with children, giving them choices and a better idea of how to prepare food in a healthful kitchen. This book details how to teach children, tweens, young, and mature adults alike to make better decisions when it comes to shopping, planning, and entertaining. It is believed that when introduced to these wonderful resources and recipes children will grow up to be independent and confident “chefs” home and or professional.

About |Me — Latrice Fowler

I was born in Fort Worth, Texas back in the day — June 1975 to be exact. A lot of my childhood comes back to me in bits and pieces because of some not-so-fun memories. I’m a surviver of sexual abuse/incest. Before starting my ventures in becoming a cookbook author — among other things — I knew before I got started with that I needed to face a few demons in my closet.

About 6 years ago I was given the biggest wakeup call of my life. After falling into the biggest deep dark depression I tended to my illness more than my family and my oldest daughter let me have it. I over heard this child utter “I hate her” to her brother and I almost lost it. I knew right then that it was time to get some help and fix the damage that was plaguing my household.

Texas was the biggest source of bad memories because not only was I violated by my brother’s father, my grandmother’s next door neighbor, and a cousin of hers who lived down the street. Once my mother, step-father, brother and I moved out of Texas to Omaha, NE I thought my luck was getting a little better, but low and behold…would you believe the father of a kid I was babysitting tried to attack me while taking me home. For a young girl thinking this had to be the norm — I never did say anything — big mistake!

We lived in Omaha for 5 1/2 years and then my step-father was assigned (air-force) to a base in Holland, NL. This was my opportunity to just be as free as the word free itself. I absolutely loved everything about living overseas. This was the best time of my life. One of these days I hope to have an opportunity to take my family back to Holland so they can soak up as much European culture as they possibly can.

To make a long story short — too late! I received the help I needed which helped get my family back on track and we’ve been trucking along better then ever. I believe in my heart that talking about things that have caused you the most pain really and truly helps! Holding it all in eats away at you and you slowly lose your mind.
